WEST HAVEN, March 7, 2018 — On July 1, 2017, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection adopted revised stormwater quality regulations, known as MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems).

The goal is to improve the water quality of the streams and rivers that flow into Long Island Sound. This will improve the quality of the use of Long Island Sound, from boating and fishing to swimming. It is a five-year program, with goals for each separate year. Part of the regulation is an annual report showing how West Haven has accomplished or is moving to fulfill these requirements.
