West Haven Curbside Recycling Guidelines

To ensure proper and efficient curbside recycling collection through West Haven’s automated pickup, please follow these detailed guidelines.

• Place the cart at the curb the night before your scheduled pickup day.
• Ensure the cart is:
  • Facing the street: The lid opening should face the street.
  • Accessible: At least 3 feet away from other carts, parked vehicles, mailboxes or obstacles.

All recyclables must be placed loose in your recycling cart, DO NOT put recycling in plastic bags.

2. Use the City-Issued Blue 65-Gallon Recycling Cart

• All recyclables must be placed inside the blue 65-gallon cart provided for automated pickup.
• Recycling left outside the cart, including items placed in bags or boxes, will not be collected.

3. Maximize Space in the Cart

• Flatten and compact items when possible, such as crushing cans and plastic bottles.
• Place smaller items inside larger ones to save room.

4. Ensure the Lid is Fully Closed

• All recyclables must fit entirely inside the cart with the lid closed to prevent spills and to comply with pickup guidelines.
